Sherman County is accepting employment applications for the position of Weed District Supervisor. This position is 40/hours/week or 1.0 FTE with benefits, $5,242 - $7,025.

Primary responsibilities of this position include: Enforcing the Sherman County Weed Control Ordinance; Directs daily work activities of Weed District employees; Manages projects and contracts; Manages Weed District budget; Uses weed control methods including chemical, biological and manual removal of weeds; Maintains spray equipment including minor mechanical work; Uses a variety of spray equipment including electrical, mechanical and manual; Conducts surveys by vehicle and on foot to locate new weed infestations and determine success of prior control methods. Accurately documents findings on maps including the use of GPS technology; Obtains and maintains required State licenses for Public Pesticide Applicators, including Laws & Safety, Right-of-Way and Regulatory Weed.

Weed District Supervisor will work outside, in the environment in all weather and in rough terrain. Snakes and ticks are not uncommon within the project areas. Experience in operating off-road vehicles, pulling a trailer and use of GPS data is essential.

Primary Job Purpose

The Water Systems Operator is responsible for managing field operations and maintaining the BWID water systems. This includes ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient service while maintaining compliance with BWID Articles of Incorporation, By-Laws, and Rules and Regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and maintain BWID water systems, buildings, wells, equipment, and assets.

  • Manage equipment warranties and resolve related issues.

  • Procure and maintain necessary equipment and materials for system maintenance and repairs.

  • Coordinate with contractors for system repairs and maintenance.

  • Manage contracts and vendor relationships.

  • Develop and track annual and long-term budgets and plans for system performance, maintenance, and upgrades.

  • Maintain records and submit reports to state and local authorities.

  • Conduct required testing and ensure timely submission of results to regulatory agencies.

  • Compile and distribute the annual Consumer Confidence Report and semiannual newsletter.

  • Read and monitor water meters, reporting any system issues.

  • Coordinate responses to water emergencies, which may involve working in extreme conditions.

  • Provide daily reports to the Board of Directors.

  • Stay updated with industry standards and maintain professional relationships with other water system operators.

  • Obtain and maintain all required certifications for testing and system maintenance.

Scouting America’s Cascade Pacific Council is seeking talented individuals who are passionate about coordinating resources for our volunteer program leaders. Our Membership Associate Serving Executive will focus on growing Scouting throughout the Columbia Gorge, with the focus of growing middle school programs in communities such as Cascade Locks, Odell, Mosier, Dufur and The Dalles.

The strongest candidates will possess servant-leadership qualities, the ability to work a flexible schedule (including some nights and weekends), and a desire to enrich the lives of members of our community.

Our Member Associate do the following in their positions:

  • Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include volunteer recruitment, youth membership recruitment, and retention.

  • Be responsible for extending programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations through volunteers.

  • Work with commissioner staff on improving and stabilizing unit adult leaders, youth membership and unit retention.

  • Recruit, train, inspire and staff volunteer committees for membership and new unit growth. 

  • Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers. The executive must have communication skills and be able to explain the program’s goals and objectives to the public. 

  • Participate in Council events to cultivate relationships with volunteers, current and potential chartered partners and other community groups that have a like-minded interest in serving young people.

  • Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieving Council objectives.

  • Participate fully as a Council team member, attending full staff meetings, professional development activities, and other staff meetings as appropriate.

  • Attained 21 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.

  • Ability to work varied hours when necessary, evening activities and weekend work is frequently required to achieve positive objectives. 

  • Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.

  • A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.

  • Offers for employment are subject to criminal, reference and motor vehicle background checks.

Salary Information: $20 an hour for 20-25 hours a week. We also offer generous vacation policy, holidays, and mileage reimbursement for approved business-related expenses. This will be an annual contract, renewable annually based on membership growth and the council’s budget.
